I have been snooping around the internet for a few weeks now looking for ideas to increase performance on my off-roader. She is due to be rebuilt over the next few months and i wanted to make her a bit more unique.
I have come across a possible supercharger, the rare Aisin AMR500 and feel it might be the one to go for as low rpm torque is ideal.
the engine is a SOHC 8v 4 cyclinder 1 litre, i have currently fitted an SU HIF 38 carb, Janspeed 4 branch manifold and exhaust and a K&N filter.
i am a tad confused about the charger displacements, the AMR500 is reputed to displace 500cc of air per revolution and I am unsure what a 1 litre requires. Also are there any modern/other equivilents that i could use instead?
would i need to do anything to reduce the compresion by means of fitting double headgaskets or idealy machining a spacer plate?
do i need a waiste gate between the blower and the inlet manifold for throttle down or am i correct to think that is only needed if the carb is between the blower and inlet manifold?
A 1000cc 4-stroke only takes in 500cc per revolution. The AMR500 if driven at 1.5 times crank speed will produce about 7.5 psi boost. That blower can be driven faster or slower than that to get to what ever boost figure you desire (with in reason).
